Service Description

Neurofeedback (NFB) trains the brain through operant conditioning. Psychotherapy addresses the way we think about things and consequently how we feel. Together, neurofeedback and psychotherapy can create lasting change and recovery. Overall, neurofeedback improves brain function so you can better engage in the psychotherapy process and make more conscious, healthy decisions for yourself. Learning to modify heart rate patterns can have positive impacts on many issues such as: stress response chronic pain including headaches and fibromyalgia anxiety levels eating disorders including emotional eating depression inability to focus mood swings motivation Pain responses coping skills for trauma survivors testing anxiety addictions hypertension awareness cardiac issues During a typical emWave session, the client connects to either an earlobe or finger sensor. The emWave sensor monitors both heart rate (beats per minute) and heart rate variability (changes in the beat-to-beat heart rate). This data is reflected back to the client on a screen where they can see how their thoughts and emotions effect their nervous system and heart. When stressed, thinking negative thoughts or feeling negative emotions shows up on the screen as a jagged discordant heart wave pattern. A smooth, rounded sine wave reflects a calm and balanced inner state which is associated with a coherent physiology. Learning to become aware of internal forces and how to modify them offers an effective tool for emotion regulation as well as stress and pain management. HRV training is easy and can be done anywhere. With time and practice, internal coherence becomes the norm and it can be readily felt when one becomes even slightly dysregulated. But HRV training initiates changes that go beyond our physiology and has a ripple effect to all areas of one's life and everyone or thing a person interacts with. The following research from HeartMath Institute supports this statement.
